Boiled Dinner - Crockpot Style

Growing up I experienced some of the most fabulous meals from my Gramas. This recipe - Boiled Dinner was made on the stove in a big pot when I was a little girl. Oh how I love the smell of cabbage cooking. The Grama that made this had some German in her blood.

We would gather around Grama's table with Grampa, an aunt and uncle, a few cousins and would dive into this. Grama would serve it with huge slices of homemade bread and we would dip it into the broth and slop it all together. Oh my, was it delicious.

Now with the crockpot it is so much easier.

I started this last night at 11:00 when I went to bed so it would be ready for lunch today.

Here you go:

Place a pork roast in your crock pot. Salt and pepper liberally.

Add potatoes that are peeled and quartered.

 Add peeled and cut carrots.

Add a quartered onion.

Cut your cabbage in wedges and add as much as you have room for. Salt and pepper again.

Because I was cooking this over night I set it on low for 10 hours. And it was perfectly done. The meat fell apart.

I put it in a large serving bowl with all the juice to keep the flavors. This tastes even better the next day.
